Problem Gambling

Although we all enjoy having a flutter, at some point we're sure that many people have spent a little more than they meant to (us included!). For most people, gambling is not a problem, and they can stay well within their limits most of the time. But for some, theur gambling can become a real problem, threatening their bank balance, home and even family. Card players and slots players have traditionally been the types to be at risk of chronic overspending, but at Bingomaniacs, we are also aware that online bingo, with its high-stake games, multiple card features and 24 hour timetable might offer a risk too.

We hope that you never find youself in this situation, but if you do, who can you turn to? You may not want to admit to friends and family that you have a problem.

Help is at hand at Gamcare, a registered charity which aims to be non judgemental about gambling, and work with both the industry and players to ensure that a responsible attitude is taken by the gaming companies.

Gamcare has a 24 hour helpline if you need to get advice from them for yourself or for someone you know, which can be contacted at 0845 6000 133. /they also have a very comprehensive and useful website, which can be found here. You can download information sheets about various aspects of problem gaming, and last year Gamcare launched a forum letting visitors discuss, ask questions and offer advice about this tricky subject. The forum has proved to be a hit, with a very supportive attitude between members. If you are at all concerend with any aspect of your or anyone close to you's gambling, do pop into the Gamcare forums.

A useful piece of software you can install is also available. Called Gamblock, once purchased (it costs £20) and installed it will prevent the computer from accesssing any online gaming sites. Although this may sound drastic, it is a highly effectice solution to a problem that can easily run out of control as online games are so easily accessible.
